Add a Customer Directly

The Add a Customer wizard lets you enable Outermind for a customer's Microsoft 365 tenant without going through Partner Center. It walks through two steps: entering the customer's tenant details and granting admin consent.

How to open the wizard​

From the Customer List page, click Add customer directly. The wizard opens at /customers/add.

Step 1 - Customer information​

Enter the customer's Azure Tenant ID and any other required fields, then click Continue.

Tenant already registered (conflict error)​

If the tenant is already registered on Outermind - either as a direct customer or under another MSP - the backend returns a 409 error and the wizard shows:

"This tenant is already registered on Outermind. Please contact support if you believe this is an error."

No duplicate registration is created. Contact Outermind support if the tenant should be under your account.

Step 2 - Admin consent​

Outermind requires admin consent from the customer's Microsoft 365 tenant before it can access their data.

Click Grant Consent. A popup opens to Microsoft's admin consent page, scoped to the customer's tenant.

The customer's Microsoft 365 global admin (or any user with the Privileged Role Administrator role) must sign in and click Accept in that popup. The popup closes automatically when consent is granted and the wizard advances.

If the popup is closed before consent is granted - including if the browser blocks the popup - the wizard shows:

"Consent was not granted. An admin of the customer's Microsoft 365 tenant must grant consent for Outermind."

Two options appear:

  • Retry - re-opens the consent popup so the admin can try again.
  • Copy Consent Link - copies the consent URL to your clipboard. Send this link to the customer's admin so they can open it themselves. Once they complete consent, return to the wizard and click Retry to advance.

The wizard moves to a provisioning step where Outermind sets up the customer's environment. Once complete, the customer appears in the Customer List with Status = Enabled.

FAQ​

What role does the customer's admin need to grant consent? Global Administrator or Privileged Role Administrator in the customer's Microsoft 365 tenant.

The popup was blocked by my browser - what do I do? Use Copy Consent Link to send the consent URL directly to the customer's admin. They can open the link, sign in, and approve. Then click Retry in the wizard.

Can I add the same tenant twice? No. If the tenant ID is already registered, the wizard shows a conflict error on Step 1 and prevents the duplicate.

Why am I redirected to billing setup when I open the wizard? Your MSP account does not have an active billing method on file. Complete the billing setup wizard first, then return to add a customer.
