Affinity CRM Integration

Connect your Affinity workspace to give AI agents access to relationship-intelligence data used in VC/PE deal flow, pipelines, and fundraising.

Overview

The Affinity integration is a single-connection, API-key-based integration. You generate an API key in Affinity and paste it into Control Bridge; the system verifies the key, discovers your workspace's list and field schema, and makes Affinity tools available to agents.

info

Affinity's API is available on the Scale, Advanced, and Enterprise plans. The Essentials plan does not include API access - if your organization is on Essentials, contact Affinity to upgrade before connecting.

How It Works

info

If your plan doesn't include Affinity, the Marketplace card shows an Upgrade button instead of Connect. The connection page itself remains available at Capabilities > Connections > Affinity once your organization's plan includes it; check with your account team if the connect button is not active for you yet.

Getting Started

Prerequisites

Before connecting Affinity:

  1. Affinity Scale, Advanced, or Enterprise plan - Essentials does not include API access
  2. Admin role or "Generate API Key" permission in Affinity
  3. A dedicated service user (recommended) - see the warning below
  4. Control Bridge Admin Access - you must have permission to manage connections
warning

Use a dedicated service user to generate the API key, not a personal account. All agent actions in Affinity (notes, field updates, etc.) are attributed to whichever Affinity user owns the key. If the key is generated from a personal account and that person is later deactivated in Affinity, the API key is revoked immediately and the connection stops working. A dedicated service/technical-contact account avoids both problems.

Step 1: Generate an API Key in Affinity

  1. In Affinity, go to Settings > API
  2. Click Generate API Key (requires the admin role or the "Generate API Key" permission)
  3. Copy the generated key - Affinity only shows it once

Step 2: Connect Affinity in Control Bridge

  1. Navigate to Capabilities > Connections > Affinity
  2. Paste the API key into the API Key field
  3. Click Connect Affinity

On success, the page switches to the connected view showing your workspace name and the key owner. If the key is rejected, the page shows an inline error - re-check the plan prerequisite and that the key was copied in full.

Step 3: Review the Connected State

Once connected, the page shows:

  • Status badge - active or error
  • Key owner card - the Affinity user the key belongs to, labeled "Agent actions in Affinity are attributed to this user," plus who connected it and when
  • Monthly quota card - remaining/limit API calls with a progress bar and the last-observed time; shows "Unlimited (Enterprise)" when your plan has no cap, and switches to warning styling as you approach the floor
  • Schema browser - a collapsible view of your Affinity lists, global person/company fields (with dropdown options), per-list fields, and your internal team roster, pulled from Affinity and cached; use Refresh schema to re-pull it (disabled while your quota is near the floor, to avoid using up remaining calls)
  • Tool assignments - which agents have Affinity tools assigned, with a shortcut to the tool group

Step 4: Assign Affinity Tools to Agents

  1. Navigate to Workforce > Agents > Agents & SMEs
  2. Edit the agent that should have Affinity access
  3. Go to the Tools tab
  4. Enable the Affinity tool group
  5. Save the agent

Updating or Disconnecting

  • Update API key - use this if you rotate the key in Affinity or need to switch to a different service user; opens the same form, submitted as an update
  • Disconnect - removes the connection from Control Bridge. Disconnecting here does not revoke the key in Affinity; go to Affinity Settings > API and delete the key there as well if you want to fully revoke access

Troubleshooting

Connection Fails Immediately After Pasting the Key

Problem: Submitting the API key returns an error instead of connecting

Solutions:

  1. Confirm your Affinity plan is Scale, Advanced, or Enterprise - Essentials keys will not work
  2. Re-copy the key from Affinity; keys are only shown once and are easy to truncate when copying
  3. Confirm the key wasn't already revoked or regenerated in Affinity since you copied it

Connection Shows "Error" State After Working Previously

Problem: The connection was active but now shows an error banner

Solutions:

  1. Check whether the Affinity user who owns the key was deactivated - deactivation revokes the key immediately
  2. Use Update API key to supply a fresh key, ideally from a dedicated service user
  3. Use Test Connection to confirm the new key resolves the error

Schema Refresh Is Disabled

Problem: The "Refresh schema" button is greyed out

Solutions:

  1. Check the monthly quota card - refresh is disabled when your remaining API calls are near the floor, to preserve capacity for agent tool calls
  2. Wait for the quota to reset (see the observed-at timestamp) and try again
