DocuSign
Connecting DocuSign's MCP server lets your agents send documents for signature and keep track of them: create envelopes from your templates, send through DocuSign's upload widget, find envelopes and check their recipients, send reminders, and update or void envelopes. The server offers 14 eSignature tools, plus Workflow Builder, Agreement Manager and CLM tools for accounts that have those DocuSign products.
Read How MCP Servers Work in Outermind first if you have not connected an MCP server before.
Before you start
- A paid DocuSign eSignature account. The known server DocuSign (mcp.docusign.com) signs in at
account.docusign.com, so a DocuSign developer (demo) account cannot connect through it. For a demo account, pick DocuSign (developer sandbox) (mcp-d.docusign.com) under Known server instead; it signs in ataccount-d.docusign.com, and every other step below is the same. - A DocuSign user to sign in as. The connection acts as the DocuSign user who signs in, so envelopes that agents send come from that user.
- DocuSign IAM or CLM, only if you want agents to use those tools; see Billing notes.
- A tenant admin in Outermind to run the wizard and grant the tools.
Prepare DocuSign
Nothing to register. Outermind signs in with its own DocuSign integration, so you do not create an integration key or change any settings at DocuSign. Make sure the person who will sign in can send envelopes in your DocuSign account.
Connect in Outermind
- Open the Capabilities hub, click MCP Servers under Tool Management, and click Add MCP server.
- Under Known server, pick DocuSign (mcp.docusign.com). The endpoint
https://mcp.docusign.com/mcpis filled in, the wizard shows "Sign in and approve." and the expected sign-in is OAuth sign-in. Optionally edit Purpose, the one-line description agents see beside this server. Click Next. - On Credential, the wizard says "Outermind signs in with its own application registered with this provider." Click Connect, sign in to DocuSign as the user the connection should act as, and approve.
- On Summary, Outermind discovers DocuSign's tools and makes them active. Under Grant tools to agents, pick an agent to choose an access level for each one; to leave a tool out, use the connection page afterwards.
What your agents can do
With the eSignature tools, agents can:
- create an envelope from one of your templates;
- send a document through DocuSign's upload widget;
- find and read envelopes;
- work with templates and recipients;
- send reminders;
- update or void an envelope;
- look up your account and its users.
Accounts with a DocuSign IAM subscription also get 8 Workflow Builder tools and 2 Agreement Manager tools, and accounts with DocuSign CLM get 5 CLM tools.
Read actions start at tier low, and every other action starts at high; see
Risk tiers.
Sending an envelope reaches real signers, and voiding one cancels a signing that is already under way. Keep every
tool that sends, updates or voids an envelope at tier high.
What is not available
This server covers less than Outermind's earlier built-in DocuSign integration did. Agents cannot use:
- Download the signed PDF. Agents can see that an envelope is complete, but cannot download the signed document from it.
- Send a document by bytes. Agents cannot send a document they hold by supplying its content directly; they send from a template or through DocuSign's upload widget instead.
- Anchor pre-flight. The earlier integration checked, before sending, that the anchor text which places each signature field was actually in the document. Agents now find out only after the envelope is created.
- Send idempotency. The earlier integration recognised a repeated send of the same envelope and did not send it again. Through the MCP server, a retried send can reach the signers a second time.
Billing notes
The Workflow Builder and Agreement Manager tools need a DocuSign IAM subscription, and the CLM tools need DocuSign CLM. Without them, those tools fail when an agent calls them, so exclude them on the connection page if your account does not include them. Outermind knows of no separate DocuSign charge for using the MCP server, and calls are not charged per call the way Zapier counts tasks. Envelopes that agents send count against your DocuSign plan like any other envelope.
