Notion

Connecting Notion's MCP server lets your agents search and work with your Notion workspace: pages, databases and their data sources and views, comments, teams and file uploads. The server offers 36 tools.

Read How MCP Servers Work in Outermind first if you have not connected an MCP server before.

Before you start

  • A Notion account in the workspace agents should work in. The connection acts as the Notion user who signs in, so agents reach what that user can reach.
  • Your Notion plan. Some tools only work on higher Notion plans; see Plan-gated tools.
  • A tenant admin in Outermind to run the wizard and grant the tools.

Prepare Notion

Nothing to prepare. Outermind registers itself with Notion automatically when you connect.

Connect in Outermind

  1. Open the Capabilities hub, click MCP Servers under Tool Management, and click Add MCP server.
  2. Under Known server, pick Notion (mcp.notion.com). The endpoint https://mcp.notion.com/mcp is filled in, the wizard shows "Sign in and approve." and the expected sign-in is OAuth sign-in. Optionally edit Purpose, the one-line description agents see beside this server. Click Next.
  3. On Credential, the wizard says "Outermind registers itself with this server automatically when you connect." Click Connect, sign in to Notion and approve.
  4. On Summary, Outermind discovers Notion's tools and makes them active. Under Grant tools to agents, pick an agent to choose an access level for each one; to leave a tool out, use the connection page afterwards.

Keeping the connection signed in

Outermind refreshes Notion's sign-in automatically, including during the daily re-sync. If Notion stops accepting it (Notion's refresh tokens last about 180 days), the connection shows Needs reauth; click Reconnect on the connection page and sign in again.

What your agents can do

Agents can:

  • search the workspace, including Notion's AI search on plans that include it;
  • read, create and update pages;
  • work with databases, their data sources and views;
  • read and add comments;
  • work with teams;
  • upload files.

Read actions start at tier low, and every other action starts at high; see Risk tiers.

Plan-gated tools

Some tools, such as AI search, meeting notes, SQL mode and Custom Agents, depend on your Notion plan. They become active like any other tool on every plan, but on a plan that does not include them a call returns a plan-required error. An agent can call Notion's notion-get-tool-access tool to check which tools your plan allows. Exclude a plan-gated tool on the connection page if your plan does not include it, so agents do not try it.

What is not available

Nothing that Outermind's earlier built-in Notion integration offered is missing; the MCP server covers all of it and adds more.

Billing notes

Outermind knows of no separate Notion charge for using the MCP server. Plan-gated tools need the Notion plan that includes them.
