Plane

Connecting Plane's MCP server lets your agents work in your Plane Cloud workspace: work items, cycles, modules, labels, states, pages, attachments and time logs, plus search. The server offers about 30 tools, which together carry about 200 actions.

Read How MCP Servers Work in Outermind first if you have not connected an MCP server before.

Before you start

  • A Plane Cloud workspace. Plane offers OAuth sign-in only on Plane Cloud, and its personal access token route needs a workspace header that an Outermind connection cannot send, so a self-hosted Plane cannot be connected.
  • A Plane account in that workspace. The connection acts as the Plane user who signs in, so agents reach what that user can reach.
  • A tenant admin in Outermind to run the wizard and grant the tools.

Prepare Plane

Nothing to prepare. Outermind registers itself with Plane automatically when you connect.

Connect in Outermind

  1. Open the Capabilities hub, click MCP Servers under Tool Management, and click Add MCP server.
  2. Under Known server, pick Plane (mcp.plane.so). The endpoint https://mcp.plane.so/http/mcp is filled in, the wizard shows "Sign in and approve." and the expected sign-in is OAuth sign-in. Optionally edit Purpose, the one-line description agents see beside this server. Click Next.
  3. On Credential, the wizard says "Outermind registers itself with this server automatically when you connect." Click Connect, sign in to Plane and approve read and write access.
  4. On Summary, Outermind discovers Plane's tools and makes them active. Plane names its tools with bare words such as workitem and cycle; Outermind puts the connection's slug in front of each one, so they stay distinct from other servers' tools. Under Grant tools to agents, pick an agent to choose an access level for each one; to leave a tool out, use the connection page afterwards.

What your agents can do

Agents can:

  • create, read, update and delete work items;
  • manage cycles, modules, labels and states;
  • work with pages and attachments;
  • log time;
  • search with Plane's query language (PQL).

Read actions start at tier low, and every other action starts at high; see Risk tiers.

Each Plane tool bundles many actions; for example, one work-item tool can create, read, update and delete work items. Outermind classes and tiers each Plane tool as a whole, so a tool that can delete starts at high even when an agent only reads with it, and lowering its tier lowers every action inside it.

warning

Plane does not ask for confirmation before a destructive action such as a delete. The risk tier in Outermind is the only check, so keep any Plane tool that can delete at tier high.

What is not available

  • The project roll-up summary. Outermind's earlier built-in Plane integration could fetch a summary for a whole project in one call; the MCP server has no equivalent. An agent can still read the project's work items and summarise them itself.

Billing notes

Outermind knows of no separate Plane charge for using the MCP server.
